The Story

“Henry Cotton’s”のブランド名は、スポーツの才能だけではなく、そのスタイルやエレガントな出で立ちでもよく知られている20世紀の偉大なプロゴルファー「Henry Cotton」に由来しています。 このブランドは当時の創造的な時代の流れを受けて1970年代の後半に誕生し、アングロアメリカンのライフスタイルにインスパイアされたトータル・スタイリングを創り上げました。

1980年代初頭にオイルコーティングを施した「オイルドクロス」の革新的なブルゾンを発明したことにより、このブランドの素晴らしい評判は人々に知られるようになりました。この素材はその後ブランドを象徴する物となり、また同時にHenry Cotton’sの成功を形作るきっかけとなりました。

1998年にブランドディレクター、Mr.Remo Ruffini – レモ・ルッフィーニ氏が就任。この時からモダンカントリーのフィロソフィーを掲げたキャンペーンが展開され、2000年におけるスタイルの変更に見られるように、ブランドポジショニングを大きく再構築し、同時にこのブランド本来の表現力を取り戻しました。

全英オープンゴルフで3度の栄冠に輝いたトーマス・ヘンリー・コットン。

そのゴルファーは英国紳士らしい優雅な装いでプレイし、18ホールが終わってもその姿は乱れることがありませんでした。そんな彼の上品なスタイルに魅了されたイタリア人デザイナーはエレガントなアウトドアコレクションとしてHenry Cotton’sを発表しました。

英国のナチュラルアウトドアスピリッツを継承しながらも、イタリアらしいモダンセンスを調和することによって実現するコンフォートでシンプルなコレクション。

ただ単に流行を追いかけるのではなく、自分らしさをさりげなく演出し、服装でその生き方までをもスタイリングします。

    Thomas Henry Cotton, known to all as “Henry,” is born in Holmes Chapel, England to a humble family

  • A Natural Born Talent11.Mar.1923

    Henry’s precious athletic talent is revealed when he wins the Pilling Cup, the men’s Knockout, the Club Championship and the Hutchings Trophy, all in one year – at 16. When he isn’t winning at golf, he is winning at cricket with school mates

  • Henry and Leslie11.Feb.1924

    Famously forsaking his scholarship and leaving public school after refusing to be caned for insubordination, Henry (and his faithful older brother Leslie), set out against all odds to be professional golfers. The rest, as they say, is history

  • Henry The Pro11.Aug.1926

    Henry is named “pro” at the respected Langley Park Golf Club in Kent, becoming the youngest Head Golf Pro in the history of British golf

  • Flying High11.Feb.1930

    Just for fun, Henry begins training for his pilot’s license

  • The British Open Championshi 11.Nov.1934

    After a decade of American domination, Henry reclaims the Claret Jug for Britain at 27, to win the British Open (Golf) Championship. Dunlop Golf Company issues its famous “Dunlop 65” in honor of Henry’s low score. It is still in production today. Henry’s rebellious nature, abundant confidence and movie-star good looks capture the imagination of a nation

  • “Toots” Estanguet De Moss11.Aug.1939

    Disappointing a legion of eligible ladies, Henry marries “Toots” Estanguet de Moss, an Argentinian heiress. The devoted Toots is credited with elevating Henry’s sartorial flair and extravagant lifestyle to “five-star” heights

    Henry wins the British Open Championship for the second of three times

  • WW211.Feb.1940

    World War II: Henry joins the Royal Air Force as a pilot in active service. He receives the title of Member of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition for his humanitarian activity for the Red Cross

  • British Ryder Cup11.Mar.1948

    Henry’s third British Open Championship, along with his leadership of the British Ryder Cup team the year before, complete Henry’s transformation from youthful anti-establishment rebel to international sport legend and celebrity

  • Golf Foundation11.Sep.1953

    Henry retires from professional golf to pursue a variety of passions, which include golf course design and journalism. He co-creates the Golf Foundation to help children in the UK get started in golf and learn important life skills. The Golf Foundation continues today.

  • Rookie Of The Year11.Nov.1960

    The European PGA Golf Circuit creates the “Henry Cotton’s Rookie of the Year” award, which has since been bestowed to greats such as Nick Faldo and Sergio Garcia.

  • Algarve, Portugal11.Feb.1966

    Henry designs one of the most notable golf courses in the world, the Penina Hotels & Golf Resort in Algarve, Portugal. Algarve becomes a second home to Henry and a respite from his many professional and charitable pursuits.

    The Henry Cotton’s fashion brand is created and launched in Italy, reflecting Henry’s refined taste and passion for luxury and quality. The collection reinvents the tradition of impeccable British tailoring with continental flair of Italian design and quality.

  • World Golf Hall Of Fame11.Oct.1980

    Having won 30 major titles throughout the world and written ten books, Henry is inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He is recognized today as the greatest British player of his generation

  • Henry Cotton’s Goes International11.Aug.1980

    Distribution of the Henry Cotton’s collection ventures beyond Italian borders and throughout Europe, traded in better specialty stores and department stores as well as monobrand boutiques

  • The Fishermen11.Jun.1983

    The brand’s iconic logo featuring three Fly Fishermen is introduced to reflect Sir Henry’s lifelong love of the sport

    A women’s collection from Henry Cotton’s is launched

    Shortly before his death at age 80, Henry is knighted by Queen Elizabeth, the first golfer to be so recognized for service to the game In his day, Henry was perhaps as well-known for his enviable wardrobe, extravagant parties and over-the-top lifestyle as for his athleticism, relentlessly competitive nature and myriad charitable and professional interests.

    Some called him arrogant. Some called him irascible. Some called him a showman. Henry Cotton may have been all of those things and more. But one thing is for sure, Sir Harry lived life to the fullest and leaves a colourful legacy behind.

    Henry Cotton’s brand launches in Asia. Japan and Korea soon become the two of the brand’s most important markets, with more than 100 points-of-sale opened after its launch in Tokyo
